This is what triathletes do...

So having worked out what makes me tick you can just log on and blow the dust off your credit card to be able to read the number, make sure it is still valid and preferably has your name on it too!

Then log on to my Virgin Giving website (below) and push me closer to the £1,000 goal.

If you would like to share this blog with others then please do .. they will appreciate the cartoons if nothing else........!

Many thanks

Day 15 almost 300 miles/480 ks. and more funds added as I cycle for BRAIN TUMOUR RESEARCH

Hi,

I must start by thanking those that continue to give to such a worthy cause - it really makes this ride worthwhile. Don't forget to let others know, thank you.

Have just read a story that puts this ride in aid of BRAIN TUMOUR RESEARCH into perspective.

Pippa Middleton at the grand old age of 30 has just completed, with the rest of the team of 8, the 3,000 mile ride across The United States in aid of The British Heart Foundation and the Michael Matthews Foundation.

Nothing strange so far ... so read on....

Apparently the media are more interested in other elements such as how sore was she after completing the race.... (I quote)

  • They were part of a team of eight taking turns to cycle while others rested
  • Pippa revealed she would treat her bottom with plenty of saddle cream
  • But her custom-built, £2,250 (weighing in at 7.5 kgs) road bike no doubt helped her as well!

I am riding a Giant Cri (weighing in at about 15 kgs + rucksack etc) at the grand old age of 70+ with a racing saddle kindly given by Simon Marr whom I cycled the London Nightrider with in 2013 in aid of The Royal Air Forces Association when we completed 108 miles overnight.

I am aiming to raise £1,000 this time, Kate has so far raised £4,800.

The secret to raising more obviously lies more in ones anatomy than the distance cycled!!

    (So what hope have I?!!...)

So out with the cream, more massage and, and - Oh yes!, nearly forgot - buy a new 7.5 kg. bespoke bike!

Please support me so I can reach the more modest £1,000 by cycling 425 miles/700 kms. on my trusty stead...

If you feel others would also like to help please pass this message on.

Our vision is to find a cure for brain tumours. Let us turn the aim of BRAIN TUMOUR RESEARCH into a reality.

In the meantime I feel a little like this........

Langton is still going strong .....

    Thanks for reading,

Day 14 and the 275 milestone is passed

    Hi,

Pleased that I have now reached the 275 mile/440 kilometre hurdle! Soon only 100 miles/160 kilometres to go…..

CAN YOU HELP ME RAISE THE £695 I NEED TO REACH MY GOAL OF £1,000 for BRAIN TUMOUR RESEARCH?

Although brain cancer is less common than many other cancers, on average in England, 11 people are diagnosed with brain cancer and 9 people die from brain cancer EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR.

This means that by the end of March when I cease to raise funds 120 people will be have been diagnosed, out of which almost 100 will have tumours that will be classed as inoperable.

This puts my goal of £1,000 into perspective. It really is a drop in the ocean. So please log into my page below and give as generously as you can.

Thank you, it is really appreciated.

On the brighter side it has been announced that the

parliamentary debate I mentioned in an earlier blog is to be

held on Monday, 18th April. Please ensure your M.P. will

attend and vote in favour of an increase in funding.

If you feel this blog could be passed on to others so that our

efforts towards building 7 specialist clinics will become even

nearer to a reality please do.

    Day 13 .... nearly 250 miles or 400 kilometres

A very sad day as we read the news that Paul Daniels has passed away due to a brain tumour that was only diagnosed when he collapsed a few months ago.

He has amused countless millions on both TV and stage with his tricks and humour and has sadly passed away at only 77.

The fight goes on, to find a cure for these so called "inoperable tumours". In Paul's case he had recently (February, 2016) returned from hospital after they thought he had had a stroke, only to find he had less than a month to live with this tumour.

The dreadful part is that this is happening to numerous people every day of the year and yet we still do not know what causes them and how they can be treated.

So the Brain Tumour Research charity continues with its mission,

"Our vision is to find a cure for brain tumours"

But at last the Government is responding and I have just received an email that reads:

    Dear Langton Wildman,

Parliament is going to debate the petition you signed – “Fund more research into brain tumours, the biggest cancer killer of under-40s”.

    https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/105560

The debate is scheduled for 18 April 2016.

Once the debate has happened, we’ll email you a video and transcript.
    Thanks,
    The Petitions team
    UK Government and Parliament

So please email your M.P. to ensure they will attend and support the motion for further support.

If you have yet to do so, please support my 700 kilometre ride this month in order ...

That Brain Tumour Research may fund the building of a network of experts in sustainable brain tumour research

    Just log in to http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/LangtonWildman

If you can share this message with anyone, I and Brain Tumour Research would be really grateful.

    Many thanks

    Day 10 after 195 miles/312 kilometres

This is the first ever inquiry by the House of Commons Petitions Committee into a subject
    raised by an e-petition.

Awareness and diagnosis of brain tumours

The full report can be read here:
    http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm201516/cmselect/cmpetitions/554/55404.htm#_idTextAnchor011

The e-petition was started by one family in August 2015 and finally closed in February 2016 with over 120,000 signatures.

The introduction to the petition reads:
Fund more research into brain tumours, the biggest cancer killer of under-40s:
Brain tumours kill more children and adults under 40 than any other cancer. One of those young lives lost was my brother Stephen, who was diagnosed at just 19 and died aged 26. More funding for research is urgently needed - read on for some shocking statistics from the charity Brain Tumour Research:
Unlike most cancers, brain cancer incidence is rising; less than 20% of those diagnosed with brain cancer survive beyond 5 years; in 2014, brain tumours received 1.5% (£7.7 million) of the £498 million national spend on research into cancer. At this rate, it could take 100 years to catch up with developments in other diseases.
The charity is calling on the Government and larger cancer charities to raise investment to £30-£35 million a year, and this petition aims to support its campaign.1
This inquiry would never have happened without the hard work and determination of the Realf family, who started the petition. With the support of Brain Tumour Research, they have campaigned tirelessly to raise awareness and to press for action from the Government and Parliament. Losing a son and brother is a tragedy that no family should have to experience. The Realf family have chosen to devote their efforts to trying to ensure that other families do not have to suffer what they have gone through. We thank them for the evidence they have given to this inquiry.
    It goes on and adds:
Many of the contributions to the web thread echoed the experiences of the Realf family. Talking about the thread, Peter Realf commented:
[…] as you can read in over 1,000 entries on your
Website, sadly and unacceptably, our families tragedy is far from unique. It is unlikely that anyone reading those stories could fail to be moved by all that has been shared with the Committee, and my hope is that it will fire up a determination in all concerned that this situation must be improved and quickly.9
It is therefore essential that as much support as possible is given to BRAIN TUMOUR RESEARCH, so please support me as I cycle for them...
